Arnold Sapwell

April 6, 1942 — November 14, 2024

Arnold Marvin Sapwell passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024. He was born on April 6th, 1942 to Andrew Sapwell and Bernice Hill. He was 82 years old and was a native of Wickenburg, Arizona. He attended Wickenburg High School and joined the Navy in 1960 and served for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1963. He got married and had a son Bryce Sapwell. He got hired on with the Arizona Dept Of Transportation and he and his family relocated to St George, Utah. He worked on the I-15 freeway from Las Vegas to St George through the Virgin River Gorge. Some say it is the most beautiful drive on the whole US interstate highway system. They rerouted the Virgin River 12 times during construction At a cost of over $1,000,000 per mile which upon it's completion in 1973 was the most expensive section of highway in the US.

During his time in St George, Utah he made several close friends and spent lots of time hunting and fishing, he rarely came home empty handed. He also competed and won a lot of marksman shooting competitions during his time there. He divorced in the mid 1970's and relocated to Flagstaff Arizona and worked on several freeway projects in Northern Arizona. After several years there he relocated to the Phoenix area and worked on several big freeway projects in Phoenix until he retired in 1994 with 30 years of service.

He then started living in the back of his truck for 2 years where he went on his dream trip to Alaska where he caught the salmon and halibut he had always dreamed of catching. He drove and flew to visit all his old friends and military buddy's. He eventually settled in the place he always loved St George, Utah. He got married again and bought a house. After a few years there they eventually moved back home to Wickenburg, AZ. In 2008 they got divorced and he then moved up to Seattle to be closer to his son and grandson. It turned out he didn't like the rain and moved back don't to Phoenix area in 2010 and bought another home and got his loving dog Yolo who was by his side almost until the end of his life. They enjoyed ATV riding out in the beautiful Arizona desert which is where he loved to be.
