Betty Christian

Betty Jeane Johnson Christian, age 84, passed away September 26, 2011 in Peoria, Az. Betty was born December 20, 1926 in Kerrville, Texas to Herbert Johnson and Helen Howard Johnson. Her family moved to Arizona shortly after her birth settling first in Safford and later moving to Wickenburg. Betty graduated from University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree. She operated a Women's Dress shop in Scottsdale for a time and then married Chris Christian making their home in Wickenburg where they have raised their family. They own and operate the Johnson's Dry Goods Store in Wickenburg, which has been a family business since the 1930's and continues to the present. She and Chris enjoyed golfing together and she was an accomplished guitarist, artist, and loved gardening. She was preceded in death by a son Richard Christian in 1988. Betty is survived by her husband Chris of Wickenburg, daughter Cindy (Todd) Beal of Wickenburg and son Matt (Angela) of Surprise, grandchildren: Kyle Beal, Keely Jeane Beal, Chris Beal and Clare Christian, and sister Joy Butler of Phoenix. Betty was a wonderful, cherished and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and lives on in the hearts of her family. Private family services will be held at a later date.
