David G. Hughes, age 72, passed away December 8, 2011 in Surprise, Arizona. David was born June 28, 1939 in Pomona, California. He was raised there and attended schools there. Shortly after graduating from high school David began working at Mt. Baldy operating a ski lift. He then began working for the Mt. Clair Fire Dept. where he eventually became a capitan. During this time he also worked with North American Van lines. In 1981 he retired and moved to Idaho briefly and within a few years moved back to California where he began working with the California Division of Forestry as a firefighter. David worked with this division for 21 years and was highly valued because of his skills as a firefighter, heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He retired from the CDF in 2002 and then worked with North Tree Fire from 2004 until the present. David had a strong work ethic and many said he was a "Workaholic" He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and a member of the N.R.A. He is survived by his wife Diane of Wickenburg, Sons Michael (Debra) Hughes and John Hughes both of Payson, Arizona and a step-daughter Shelly (David) Stratton of Raymond, Washington. A sister Meredith (Gary) Reno of Woodinville, Washington and grandchildren: Christian, Dennis, Eric and Heather as well as 2 great-grandchildren.
