David Nelson

David M. Nelson, Jr., age 22, passed away suddenly on January 14, 2014 while attending Arizona State University. David was born October 29, 1991 in Glendale, Arizona. He is survived by his parents , David "Mike" and Shannon, brothers Joshua and Gregory, maternal grandparents Bob Young and Catherine Della Rocco, paternal grandmother Barbara Nelson and paternal grandfather Jerry Nelson, Aunt Jeana Nelson, Uncles Sean Young and Todd Nelson, Great uncles William(Jen), Steve(Olga), Jackson(Norma) Moran, Robert Coats, Great Aunts Christine(Larry) Vawter and Carolyn Senter. Cousins Dustin, Trystin, Skyler, Kevin, David, Angelina, Jack, Trina, Scott, Geoffrey, Melanie. David graduated from Wickenburg High School in 2010. While in HS he participated in football for two years, Varsity Soccer four years, Varsity Golf four years, and Swim Team. He was a member of Student Council, Drama and the Recycling club. While attending ASU he was involved in clubs such as SEDS, ASU Lunabotics, and Astrodevils. In the Lunabotics club he helped develop a Lunabot that was taken to compete in NASA's Robotic Mining Competition at Kennedy space center, the team took 14th place in 2013, and it was only their 2nd year of competing. He developed a passion for rockets and had become level 2 certified. He loved the ASU football games. He was a Sun Devil through and through. David was a dreamer, thinker, lover, seeker, and a believer that all things were possible and very compassionate. He always found the goodness in people. His smile will forever light our lives. We feel so blessed to have had him while we could. When David spoke of his plans for space exploration, we realized he had found his true passion, and it continued to grow until the day he died. When you think of David, look up to the stars and sky and know that David is up there smiling. A viewing will be held at Wickenburg Funeral Home Saturday, January 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will held on Sunday January 26th at 1:30pm at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Wickenburg with a "Celebration" of his life at 2:30pm at Wickenburg Community Center where we can laugh tell stories and see photos of David.
