It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Schweikardt, 88, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, who left us peacefully on December 14th 2024 Born on July 29, 1936, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Donald was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and a dedicated blue-collar man who served his community with pride.
Donald was married to Margaret Schweikardt, his loving wife, for 66 years. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and resilience. He was the proud father of Donna Bacher and Robert "Bob" Schweikardt, and a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored him deeply.
As a devoted member of the community, Donald was best known for his career as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, a construction worker, and a fireman from 1967 until 1977, where he served with unwavering dedication. His work ethic and commitment to helping others defined his life. Donald was a true-blue collar man, grounded by values of hard work, loyalty, and service.
He was also the brother of late Robert "Red" Schweikardt, with whom he shared a deep bond. Donald's kindness, humor, and strength will be missed by all who knew him.
Donald's legacy is one of love, selflessness, and community service. His family, friends, and colleagues will forever remember him as a man of integrity who made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Donald is survived by his wife Margaret, children Donna and Bob, grandchildren, and his dear great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents August and Grace and other loved ones.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his life's work and love will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him.
