Glen Wesley Ackley, passed away on May 9, 2013 at the age of 94 in his home in Wickenburg, Arizona. Born 12-19-1918 in Hopewell, Kansas. He was raised on his dad's farm until the age of 15. When he began trying to find his own way in life. At age 17 he arrived in Huntington Park, California, to join an older sister, where he went to high school. He also loved football which he played 2 seasons in Hopewell, Kansas. In October 1940, he enlisted in the Army at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, California. The First Battalion 4th Infantry for the Regiment Panama Canal Department. On October 13, 1940 he landed in Anchorage, Alaska, where he participated in the Aleutian Island Campaign. He left the service on 12-29-1944. From there he went in to a life of building things he planned, design and created in the field of cabinet making, carpentry, and general construction starting in Bell, and then Pasadena California, and then finally to Wickenburg. He was married and had 2 sons, Thomas Wesley and Edward (Ted) Allen. His second marriage in 1966 was to Mary Frances and acquired 3 step children. Mary Lorraine, Joan Bernice, and Michael Brian . He was a loving, giving father to all of his children, grandchildren, and devoted to his wife Mary. Surviving Glen are his loving Wife Mary, Son's Tom (Loretta) Ackley of San Mateo, Ca. Ted (Cindy) Ackley of Phoenix, Or. Lorraine (Cole Sr.) Martin of Phoenix, Az. Joan (Joe) Pollay of Wickenburg, Mike (Michelle) Harrington of Lihue, Hi. 8 Grandchildren, Jennifer, Todd, and Corissa Ackley, Cole Jr. and John Martin, Tim Harrington and Laura Stegeman, Jill Abrahamian. 12 Great-Grandchildren. Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Sam Weinschenk conducting, with visitation 1 hour prior to services from 12:00 to 1:00 PM and interment with military honors will follow in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations will be welcomed to the Wise Owl Senior Center, Community Action Program or the R & R Respite Care Program in Wickenburg, AZ.
