Lois Walters

September 8, 1939 — March 2, 2023

Lois Ann Walters was born September 8, 1939 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to the late Gilbert and Alma Hamilton. Lois passed away in Wickenburg on March 2, 2023, surrounded by family.

Lois' father was an Officer in the United States Army and she spent her younger years living between Bridgeport, Connecticut, Bloomfield, New Jersey and Tampa, Florida. At the age of seven, Lois' family moved to Mill Valley, California, where she spent the remaining part of her childhood. Lois graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1957 and shortly after moved to Wickenburg.

As a young woman, Lois loved living in Wickenburg. She embraced the western atmosphere that the "Dude Ranch Capital of the World" offered. Lois worked for the Burden family at Remuda Ranch and helped guide visitors into Havasupai and other Arizona destinations. Lois also worked at Brayton's Commercial Store in the early 1960's.

It was in Wickenburg that Lois met the love of her life, Joe T. "Bucky" Walters. In 1961, Lois and Bucky were married and spent 48 wonderful years together. Together, they raised three children - Donnie, Nancy and Mike. Almost all of their family time was spent in the outdoors; jeeping, hunting, fishing, camping and exploring Arizona.

Throughout the years, Lois worked for many employers, such as the Medicine Chest Pharmacy, Gray's Appliances and Wickenburg Draperies and Flooring. Lois spent nearly fifteen years working for Dr. Vance Miller, doing her best to keep his appointments on-time. She enjoyed helping Bucky campaign for Constable and being involved with the Republican Club of Sun City. She could often be seen covered in red, white and blue paint from painting campaign signs.

Lois was known to have a warm, caring, generous and sweet personality. Those fortunate enough to know Lois, were likely on the receiving end of freshly baked cookies or pie. She loved to visit with friends and keep up on current events in Wickenburg. Lois truly loved helping and caring for others in their time of need, even when not well herself. Over the years, Lois volunteered her time with the Wickenburg Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, Habitat for Humanity, Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce and Hospice of the Valley. She served on the Wickenburg Town Council from 1996-2002.

Lois is survived by her loving family, sister Susan (John) Tomasello of Berkeley, California, children Donnie (Brooke) Walters of Wickenburg, Nancy (Wesley) Walters Schmidt of Norris, South Dakota, Mike (Tonya) Walters of Wickenburg. Grandchildren, Daniel Shuler (Ashley), Jolea Shuler, Chris Yates (Jennifer), Kyle Brinkman, Austin Walters (Emma), Megan Walters and Mike Walters and eight great-grandchildren. She loved each one of her children and grandchildren tremendously. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe T. Bucky Walters, infant son (1/1/1966), sister Nancy Hamilton, brother Peter Hamilton (Marcella) and her parents, Gilbert and Alma Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley (1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ. 85014).
