MARY LORRAINE SMITH (LAKE)
FEBRUARY 26, 1945 - APRIL 11, 2022
Lorraine passed peacefully after a very long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Kalispell, Montana, the daughter of Mary T. Lake (McConkey) and Harold E "Bud" Lake. Lorraine spent most of her childhood in Missoula, Montana, and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1963. She completed her BS in Business at Weber State College. Lorraine was a stewardess with Hughes Air West for several years before marrying Ben in 1973. She was an accomplished equestrian in both Western and English disciplines, and was happiest when near or on a horse. She competed in the western discipline of Reined Cow Horse and her biggest smiles came when she was cutting. When she lived in South Carolina she competed in English tack in the Hunter Jumper class. She was also a skilled Retriever trainer, training and competing with several Labradors. She also judged Retriever Trials. She was a very good wing shot and enjoyed fly fishing and traveling the world with her husband Ben.After retirement they "snow-birded" between Arizona and Montana, before settling permanently in Wickenburg, Arizona.Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and older brother William Lee Lake. She is survived by her husband Benjamin "Ben" Smith, brother Robert "Bob" Lake and wife Julie Lake (Martin); brother Dan Lake; sister in law Carol Lake (Daley); nieces Candace (Jason), Britt (Cody), Kathy(James); and nephew Sean (Julie). No service is planned but if you wish, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Lorraine's memory.
