Maurine Pratt Colgrove of Wickenburg, Arizona passed away on July 10, 2024 at the age of 92.
Maurine was born in Mesa, Arizona. She was the fourth of five children, having three older sisters and one younger brother. Maurine lived in Mesa on a 20-acre farm about 3 miles outside of town. Her mother draped her basinet with a damp sheet to cool her since they didn't have any air conditioning. She had whooping cough and pneumonia as a young child and was hospitalized. Her most exciting memory of her home in Mesa is when they got an indoor bathroom. At age 7 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Maurine lived through the great depression and World War II. When she was 13 or 14 years old her chore was to do the family laundry every Saturday with an electric washing machine which was not fully automatic. Between the agitating cycle and two rinsing tubs it took her from early morning to noon each week to complete the laundry. Maurine graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1950. She then graduated from Arizona State University in 1954 with a teaching degree. She taught elementary school in California and Hawaii. In 1959 she married her husband, the love of her life in Laie, Hawaii. She and her husband had five children.
Maurine is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several volunteer positions including: Family History Librarian, Relief Society counselor, Primary teacher and youth leader. Her favorite service was anything related to geneology.
Family and friends will remember her for her quiet strength, faith in God, passion for geneology, sewing, painting and gardening. She is a peacemaker at heart and always had something uplifting to say or she said nothing at all.
Maurine is preceded in death by her husband, son and three sisters. She is survived by 4 children, 3 daughters-in-law, 2 sons-in-law, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to all who have reached out to our family during this time.
