Stephen Ray Bird, 72, of Wickenburg, Arizona, passed from this world to join his Savior in his heavenly home on July 5th, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Steve was born in Nebraska City, NE on January 4th, 1941 son of the late Raymond Bird and Berniece Williams Bird Canzona Mahoney. He attended the University of Colorado and graduated in 1964 with a BSEE degree. He retired from a very successful career as the Chief Power Engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation at the age of 52. He was an avid amateur radio operator, WS7R, self-taught computer programmer and coin collector. A staunch Republican, Steve authored many colorful commentaries to the Wickenburg Sun newspaper. He was active in the church and enjoyed singing in the choir until his health started to fail. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed tremendously. He joins his wife Jan Louise Carpenter Bird and son Stephen Ray Bird II in the house of our Lord. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Nelson, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be held at First Southern Baptist Church in Wickenburg, 360 West Yavapai Street at 10am on Friday July 12th.
